Your Eye Exam

Since 1985 Dr. Lynch has been examining eyes to improve his Patient's Quality of Life. He's a thorough investigator and asks questions to better understand any problems or concerns. Dr. Lynch evaluates your eyes physically and optically. Making sure the eyes are healthy is the first step in seeing your best. Dr. Lynch examines your eye lashes, lids, cornea, conjunctiva, anterior chamber, pupils, vitreous, retina, optic nerve, and macula. He also evaluates your color vision, stereo vision, and intraocular pressure. If any of these areas are abnormal, Dr. Lynch takes care of you for optimal results. If your eyes are healthy, Dr. Lynch works to prescribe the glasses or contact lenses that will work best for your needs. It doesn't matter if you have hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism, or presbyopia. Advanced technology is helping everyone see and look their best. You may know someone who has lost significant sight. Don't let it happen to you! Your eyes are Important for your well-being and quality of life. Protect your sight with yearly exams.

Have you ever been behind a slow driver? Very often one drives slowly because they can't see well enough to be confident, or they go slower to be safe. Knowing this can help you keep your cool the next time you're behind a slow driver.

Eye sight can change so gradually you're not aware there's a problem. It's like the Frog In the Frying Pan. Since the frog adapts its body temperature to the surrounding environment you can place him in a pan of water and gradually increase the temperature. Because the temperature changes slowly he won't know he's cooking until it's too late! Don't get cooked!! Having regular eye exams catches problems early; making them easier to fix, which improves your quality of life.

How often do you change the oil in your vehicle? At 3,000 miles? 6,000 miles? When the red light comes on? Some people take more regular care of their vehicle than their eyes. Think about it. If the motor is damaged because of neglect, it can still be repaired, but if your eyes become damaged, because you've waited 40,000 miles before having them checked-it's permanent! Be proactive. See us yearly and see clearly. Protect your quality of life!

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Why do you have to know my medical history?
Having current information about your overall health helps us provide the best care for your eyes. Some medications can affect your vision. If there's a change in your medication, your glasses prescription may change as well. Knowing if you are allergic to any medications helps Dr. Lynch prescribe the proper medicine for treating certain eye infections and diseases. Help us care for you. Please bring a current list of your medications to your next appointment. Keeping us current on your health history helps us promote your quality of life.

Welcome to the finest optical department (where you see and look your best!) in Crawford County located in Cuba, Missouri. Our Optical department has the ability to obtain frames from nearly every manufacturer of any brand while routinely stocking frames of popular name brands. As lens technology is always advancing we are able to offer our patients the latest in lens material and design. Understanding how you use your eyes helps us to provide the best solution to your visual needs. Non-glare lenses make your vision 12% clearer compared to lenses without this treatment. Photochromic (e.g . Transitions) lenses provide comfortable vision indoors and out as they get darker when exposed to direct sunlight and become clear when indoors. Sports enthusiasts enjoy our polarized sunglasses with or without a prescription. Polarization blocks 50% of the reflected light, which enables you to see into water and through windshield glare more comfortably. When your eyes are seeing their best, you squint less and form fewer wrinkles around the eyes! Our frames and lenses have breakage warranties for a minimal fee. In addition, quality frame and lens packages are available at great savings. The goal of our optometry department is to fulfill your vision and eye care needs through comprehensive professional services, quality frames, lenses, and contact lenses. If you need surgical care, we can refer you to recommended specialists for best results. After your surgery, we can monitor your progress as you heal. Cataracts, Lasik, macular degeneration, diabetic, retinopathy and eye muscle surgery are some of the reasons we refer for surgical care. Although we refer for specialty care, we still remain your primary eye care providers for all other eye concerns. Our mission is to promote our patient's quality of life in the community.

Contact Lenses
As technology changes in our lives, contact lenses are also changing. Today we have more solutions for your visual needs then ever before. Do you have astigmatism? Need help with your near vision? Do you have a special occasion or special activity when you don't want to wear your glasses? We would like to discuss your wants and needs and help you succeed with contact lenses! When you make your appointment be sure to mention if you are interested in contact lenses. Have you ever heard of the stinky sponge analogy? Contact lenses are like sponges, they have small pores that allow oxygen to go through them, but just like a sponge your contacts lenses get dirtier and dirtier with each use. Even though you clean your contacts thoroughly after a while, just like your sponge, you are using a very dirty lens. You are wearing a stinky sponge on your eye! Using dirty lenses can cause problems for your eyes sometimes causing a serious infection and permanent vision loss.

Spots and Floaters
Spots (often called floaters) are small, semi-transparent or cloudy specks within the eye that become noticeable when they fall within your line of sight. They may also appear with flashes of light. Almost everyone sees a few floaters. They become more noticeable as we age. Floaters are caused when small specks of protein and other matter get trapped during the formation of the eye before birth and stay in the vitreous (the clear, jelly-like fluid found in the inner eye). They may also be caused by deterioration of the eye, injury, and eye diseases. Floaters appear as threadlike strands, cobwebs, or small bugs. They will typically move around in the eye and seem to dart away when you try to look at them. Most of these floaters are normal and rarely can cause blindness. Be sure to mention the sightings of floaters or flashing lights to Dr. Lynch or make an appointment if the floaters ever increase in number or size. Sometimes floaters can be an indication of a more serious problem. For a lifetime of good vision see Dr. Lynch each year!

Cloudy Days & Cloudy Nights
The natural lens sits behind the colored part (iris) of your eye and is clear early in life. But with exposure to ultraviolet light and the aging process, the lens becomes cloudy. Although you don't realize it, the cloudy lens gradually makes colors look dull and your vision blurrier. At night, you may notice haloes around lights and headlights that are more glaring. The cloudy lens is called a cataract. Most cataracts are related to aging. Cataracts are very common in older people. The cause of cataracts is a chemical change occurring within your eye, due to advancing age or the result of an injury or a disease. Also, the use of certain medications may have an impact on the development of cataracts. A cataract can develop in either or both eyes. It does not spread from one eye to the other. As the cataract "grows"," ripens" or becomes more and more cloudy, your glasses prescription (Rx) may change. When an Rx change will not improve your failing vision, it is time for surgery! Surgery involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with a new lens, called Intraocular Lens Implant. After cataract surgery your eye is restored for the best possible vision! Dr. Lynch can arrange a referral to a surgeon and manage your recovery after surgery. Many people who have changing eyesight may have other eye conditions besides cataracts. Age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma are frequently occurring conditions, which Dr. Lynch looks for during your comprehensive eye exam. Don't delay! If your vision is changing, see us for a lifetime of good vision.

Your Eyes and Your Computer
If you have a desk job or spend time on a computer, it is very important to be comfortable in order to be productive. The eyes will let you know if they don't feel comfortable and there are things you can do to maintain comfort and productivity.

Comfortably being able to use a computer depends on your eyes. When viewing a computer, your eyes should never feel tired, painful, teary, or dry. Your vision should be clear without the use of squinting or excessively blinking. You should never experience headaches, eye strain/ irritation, or double/ distorted vision. If these are some symptoms you are having, you must be sure you have the right prescription for computer use. Also, the monitor may not be in the correct position.

Comfort and productivity on your computer depends not only on your vision, but also on your posture and the position of your monitor. Your shoulders should always be relaxed and your back straight. Your monitor should be between 18" to 28" away and slightly lower than your eye level and with an upward tilt. You may adjust the contrast and brightness until your eyes feel comfortable. Also, room lighting can play an important role in the comfort of your eyes. Reduce glare by positioning the computer away from a light source. This will make the view more clear and your eyes more comfortable. Also, regularly clean the monitor from dust or debris that can distort your vision.

Overall, you must be comfortable while using your computer. Your posture, the monitor's position, cleanliness, and room lighting ail play an important role. Listen to the eyes and they will tell if you need to make changes.

Being comfortable using your computer is a part of promoting you quality of life!
